Polypropylene is an economical material that offers a combination of outstanding physical, mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties not found in any other thermoplastic. Compared to low or high density polyethylene, it has a lower impact strength, but superior working temperature and tensile strength. Noted for its excellent chemical resistance in corrosive environments, polypropylene provides excellent resistance to organic solvents, degreasing agents and electrolytic attack. It is light in weight, resistant to staining, and has a low moisture absorption rate.
Impact Copolymer Polypropylene is a crystalline polymer which exhibits high stiffness, excellent impact strength at temperatures well below freezing, and good electrical insulation properties. The commercial grades of polypropylene impact copolymer are available in a wide range of melt flows, impact strengths and molecular weight distributions.
Impact copolymers are primarily used in injection molding parts for automotive, appliances and other durable applications. Grades are also available for extruded sheet and thermoforming.
The wide range in physical properties, relative ease of processing and low density make impact copolymer polypropylene an extremely attractive material capable of competing with more expensive resins in a number of demanding applications such as:
